Hi Clare,
I think the best place to find a photo would be local publications of the time, newspapers and annual directories.
Often unveilings were captured in postcards, but you tend to see the same few again and again on online auion sites.
Perhaps one of our forum members from down that way have seen such a pic?
Was your gran related to the four brothers?
Good luck,
Derek. |

Clare the previous time you asked it was your granny's granny
Thank you, I live in Liverpool but my granny still lives in Kirkcudbright, she has seen a pic from a newspaper years ago of her 4 uncles but hasent seen it since and she would love to see a pic of her granny

and pictures of three of the brothers were posted.
I'm a bit confused, what is it that you are looking for? _________________ Ken |

Thank you Derek, the next time I am in Kirkcudbright I will go the library and see if I can access some old papers, I am sure there must have been some pics taken,
my granny is related to the 4 brothers they were her uncles there was actually 7 who went to war 3 of them were lucky enough to come back.
ken it is my grannys granny who unveiled the memorial so that would make her my great great granny and the 4 brothers would be my great great uncles, sorry I never made that clearer.
I have got the 3 brothers pics, but we are still trying to find james but finding it harder as he served under the name Johnston, and I would still like to see a pic of the unveiling which is seeming impossible to find. |

I would suggest writing to the Crossmichael Community Council - a pretty active bunch. Also worth writing a letter to the Galloway News to ask if anyone has a photo - I'm sure they would publish it and we would love to see it here on the forum if you do turn up a copy.

David McClleland is recorded on the Dunscore Wm, I never found why he was on the Wm, he must have worked in the area before 1914, as joined up in August 1914.
All brothers are on roll of honour in Crossmichael Church and on plaque in Crossmichael Hall.
Spelling of the surname on all civil and military records is McCllelland but on all Wm's, Rolls and Plaque as McLelland
Nice to see photos of the three lads.
