14 year old Margaret Bryce wandered onto a mined beach at Fraserburgh and died when a mine exploded. Her sister and a friend also found themselves in the mine field but were saved by a local man and a Norwegian soldier. The local man was later awarded the George Medal.

Jim has the case in hand so hopefully sh'll be added to the CWGC civilian database. She is not listed on the Fraserburgh memorial like many other civilians who died in bombing raids are.

(Glasgow Herald article)

Derek

I also found reference to this incident in the Scotsman, but as usual, the location is not identified.
The children, of which she was the eldest, ignored a warning notice and climbed over a barbed wire fence in order to enter the mine field.
I suspect her name may not have been put forward since she died on account of her own careless actions, as opposed to being bombed from above.

A tragic tale, and a well deserved George Medal.
