This may refer to the 4th Highland Mountain Brigade of the Royal Artillery. It's the only unit which served with both the 51st and 29th Divisions (I think)
See: http://www.butesonsanddaughters.co.uk/battery.shtml
Which has:
When the 4th Highland Mountain Brigade mobilized in August 1914, the Argyll Mountain Battery consisted mainly of men from Argyllshire, the Bute Mountain Battery consisted mainly of men from Buteshire etc. That scheme didn't last very long, however, as the batteries transferred men between batteries for various reasons. The biggest transfers occurred in March 1915 when the decision was made to detach the Argyll and the Ross Batteries from the Highland Division to fight in Gallipoli with the 29th Division.
The 29th Division was made up primarliy of "Regular" Battalions. The only Territorial Infantry Battalion was the 1/5th Royal Scots - an Edinburgh unit. _________________ Ken |
