I'd be very surprised if this church war memorial at the other end of the city in the former Corstorphine UF Church wasn't by the same firm. They aren't exactly the same but there are similarities.

Two men named here (GIBSON and SCOTT) as A.T.S.
I don't see them on SNWM/CWGC - what's ATS in WW1? _________________ Ken |

The Leith Roll of Honour identifies both men. Both were First Engineers on different merchant ships but they were lost at sea within three days of each other.
John Y Scott is this man.

Rank: First Engineer
Date of Death: 29/12/1917
Age: 59
Regiment/Service:Mercantile Marine, "Ennismore" (Leith)
Memorial: TOWER HILL MEMORIAL
Additional Information: Son of the late Alexander Scott and Ann Ritchie Scott; husband of Margaret Scott (nee Galloway) of 309, Easter Rd., Leith. Born at Panmure, Forfarshire.
It gives his middle name as Young and states he drowned when his ship was torpedoed.
Allan C Gibson is this man

GIBSON, ALAN

It still doesn't answer the question what does ATS stand for

There are no other men listed as Mercantile Marine on this memorial. One ship sunk in December 1917 was a cargo / transport steamship and the other was a collier. I can't find anything else online linking WW1 merchant seamen to the abbreviation ATS. I am stumped.
