Gunner 193 William Sheddan, Argyll Mountain Battey, R.G.A.

He is listed on the Campbeltown memorial, but according to all the sources i can find, or have looked up, there's no resaon to believe he died during the war.

Derek - William Curdie Sheddan, born 1890 in Campbeltown.
William Sheddan, motor engineer, single and aged 27, died of pneumonia 25 October 1918 at 417 Dumbarton Rd, Whiteinch (Partick) Glasgow.
Son of James and Elizabeth (Curdie) Sheddan, both deceased.
The death was registered by his brother John Sheddan of 61 Longrow Campbeltown.
So it looks as though he was discharged but there is no mention of military service on the DC.
If you want a copy, let me know.
[The 1891 census at Campbeltown has: James 31, Elizabeth 30, Flora 5, Charles C. 4, John 2, and William C. 0. ]

Thanks for that Ken.

I'd seen that D.C. but had not been able to link it to the man on the memorial.

Not much to go on, I suppose we'd need to know what criteria the Campbeltown memorial committee used in compiling their list of names for inclusion, as wellas the family's take on his death and its root cause?
I doubt we'll know now.

Oh well.

Derek.

He was discharged 1 March 1916 - Time expired. Not a war death.
