Major General Sir John Campbell KCB Memorial
Location:St John’s Episcopal Church, Junction of Lothian Road and Princes Street, Edinburgh
OS Ref: NT 247 736



A memorial to the man who lead the assault on the Redan in the Crimea on 18th June 1855. Major General Sir John Campbel, Baronet, KCB.

The memorial mentions he was buried on Cathcart's Hill and that his old regiment the 38th Foot also erected a memorial to him in Winchester cathedral.

His father was Lt General Sir Archibald Campbell, Bart, GCB, KCTS and Sir John served with him when he conquered Burma in the 1st Burmese War in 1823. Sir Archibald is buried in the Churchyard at the back of the church.
