This magnificent memorial is situated in the museum of the Royal Highland Fusiliers, in an area not open to the public. That's a shame as this memorial is one of the nicest I have seen.
It takes the form of a "cabinet" which, when the doors are opened, reveal the list of the fallen of the Battalion.
The Roll for the First World War was done by someone named Ailsa Craig. The Second World War panels I don't believe are credited to anyone, but the work is very similar.
I'm afraid my photos don't do this memorial justice. I will need to go back an attempt to get better pictures.
Closeups of the names. Apologies for the poor quality.

A very smart looking memorial.
And there's my grandads brother Pte. Douglas Black on the WW2 names panel. He's also on Airdrie civic memorial.

I wonder if the last name on the WW1 list might be a non-comm?

A wonderful memorial. Unfortunately, on the second-last picture, the flash shine is right over the name I'm wanting. Is it possible to confirm that the name there is Maxwell Robertson please? I do hope that in the future you can find some time to photograph this again. |

DelBoy, they were my grandmother's brothers, from Govan, Glasgow. Maxwell Robertson, 1673, 6th Bn., Highland Light Infantry, died 12 July 1915, aged 19 at Gallipoli. His brother was Gunner Henry Robertson, 1820024, 9th Coast Regiment, Royal Artillery, died as a Japanese POW 19th July 1943. Last year my family travelled to Kanchanaburi War Cemetery in Thailand to visit his grave. It was so moving. I was working with my old school (also my Great Uncles') and the info is included on here by a member (I tried to attach the page but couldn't do it, it's in the Glasgow schools section, Govan High School) including an account of my visit.
I want to find out more and hope to visit Kew Archives very soon to get the Index cards. Thank you. |

Thank you. There are two new memorial plaques going up in the school because the historian has carried out much research and found new names that had not, for some reason, been included. My Uncle Harry is now remembered on the WW2 new plaque and next month the WW1 one will be unveiled. |
