Partick South Parish Church, 259 Dumbarton Road, Glasgow G11 6AB

OS Grid Ref: - NS 559665

The congregation of Partick South came together in 1978 as a tri-union of Newton Place, Partick Anderson and Hamilton Crescent churches using the then existing building of Newton Place located on the main thoroughfare of Dumbarton Road. A modern multi- purpose Sanctuary was opened in 1988 on the site of the previous building.
A new suite of halls was built onto the church and was opened in 2002.

George Turner, Gordon Turner and John Turner are the final names on the list.
Two of them are on the Glasgow Roll of Honour:
TURNER George M Gunner Australian Imperial Force 1 Thornwood Terrace Partick
TURNER John Lieutenant Gordon Highlanders 1 Thornwood Terrace Partick
and I think that the three are brothers.

TURNER, GEORGE MILLER
Gunner 4361 Australian Field Artillery 3rd A.F.A. Bde.
Date of Death:29/03/1918 Age:34
Son of William and Madge Turner. Native of Hawaiian Islands.

TURNER, GORDON
Private 200868 Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) 5th Bn.
Date of Death:05/11/1916
SNWM - Place of birth Hawaiian Islands.

TURNER, JOHN
Second Lieutenant Gordon Highlanders 7th Bn.
Date of Death:29/11/1916 Age:32
Son of Mr. W. and Mrs. M. Turner, of Ben Ericht, Blairgowrie, Perthshire. Native of Glasgow.

George's entry on the AIF Project has some interesting details and his attestation papers have an amendment showing his father Mr W M Turner of 1 Thornwood Terrace, Partick, Glasgow as his next of kin. https://www.aif.adfa.edu.au/showPerson?pid=306180

Thanks to Mark "dhubthaigh" for this

DUNDEE COURIER: 30.09.1937

WELL KNOWN IN BLAIR AND COUPAR ANGUS

DEATH OF MR WM. TURNER, RATTRAY

Mr William Turner, Ben Ericht, Rattray, who was well known in business circles in Blairgowrie, Coupar Angus, and Dundee died last night at the age of 81. He had been in failing health since January.
Mr Turner, who belonged to Aberdeen, had been for many years engaged in the cane sugar industry in the Hawaiian Islands, the East Indies, and the West Indies.
Subsequently he became associated with the jute industry, and for the past 20 years had been manager of the Station Works, Coupar Angus, for Messrs Durie & Millar, jute manufacturers.
He was held in much esteem by the employees and in the communities of Coupar Angus and Blairgowrie.
He was a well known figure in jute circles of Dundee.
Deceased was an elder of St. Andrew's Church, Blairgowrie. He did not take any active part in public affairs.
He was predeceased by his wife, and is survived by two sons and three daughters. Three of his sons were killed in the war.
