Address
WEST (CRUDEN PARISH) CHURCH
HATTON
GRAMPIAN
SCOTLAND

Type: BOARD/PLAQUE/TABLET

This kirk was originally Cruden Free Kirk and those named will be of that faith. Replacing an earlier kirk dating from the Disruption, it opened for worship on August 19th, 1885. The foundation stone was laid by the grandmother of media magnate, Rupert Murdoch. She was the wife of the minister, Rev. Murdoch.

Having your foundation stone laid by a grandmother of one of the planet's richest media moguls, a grandfather having been minister, evidently does not even give much help to an old kirk when looking for a buyer.

Having been closed in December 2007 - the congregation of Cruden using only their Old Kirk building, since that time - and in what must be quite an unusual move the Church of Scotland itself has applied for (and received) planning permission to demolish the building... then replace it with 9 semi-detached homes. Obviously they do not intend to do so themselves, but it will be to improve the saleability of the property and plot, being marketed to developers for around £160,000:

Anyone up in that neck of the woods know if or where the tablet has been or will be relocated? I spotted it on the CofS property page then followed-up on here.
