The separate Depots of the Glasgow Transport Corporation originally had their own memorials. Now that most of the depots have been closed they are located in Parkhead Depot which still operates as part of First Bus.

My thanks to Alex Glass for these photographs.

First of all some general shots of the "Memorial Garden". Please note that this is in the car park and seems to be barricaded in by cars.

Newlands Depot. Here's a photo of it as it originally was:



And here it is today. This one has fallen on hard times. It's in serious need of cleaning and repair, and as you can see the small figure at the top has vanished.

Listed on the Crossmichael Parish War Memorial in Kirkcudbrightshire as:
SERGT. JAMES WILSON, M.M. CAMERONIANS.

James Wilson, Military Medal – age 26 - Lance Sergeant (30354) 9th Battalion, Cameronians (Scottish Rifles)
James was living with his brother John at John Gray Street in Langside and was working for the Glasgow Corporation Tramways when he enlisted in September 1914 in the 15th Battalion, Highland Light Infantry (Glasgow Tramways) He transferred to the Cameronians and was awarded the M.M. for bravery in the field. (Source: SRoH, Glasgow Roll of Honour and London Gazette 17/7/1917 p.7287)
Born 1891 at Crossmichael. (Source: GRoS – Birth Register and SNWM)
Son of John and Agnes (McLean) Wilson of Crossmichael.
Missing in Action – 3 May 1917.
Commonwealth War Grave – Arras Memorial, France.
Also listed on the Roll of Honour in Crossmichael Parish Church and on the Glasgow Tramways Newlands Depot memorial now in the Parkhead Depot.

He was wounded and killed on the Somme. (Source: SRoH and the Glasgow Roll of Honour)

Died of Wounds – 9 April 1917.
Commonwealth War Grave – Railway Dugouts Burial Ground, Ypres, Belgium.

Named on a family gravestone in Castle Douglas Cemetery but not (I think) on any other war memorial apart from this one.

WILLIAM KENNEDY LITTLE – age 27 – Private (276305) 13th Battalion, Royal Scots.
William was a motorman at the Newlands Depot of the Glasgow Corporation Tramways when he enlisted in June 1916. He was mobilised in August 1917 and joined his battalion in France on 2 April 1918.
Born 1891 at Castle Douglas, Kelton Parish. Son of the late Robert and Agnes (Kennedy) Little of Castle Douglas. Husband of Christina (Davidson) Little of 70 Eastwood Avenue, Shawlands, Glasgow who he married in October 1914 in Uddingston, Bothwell, Lanarkshire.
Missing in Action on 21 June 1918 and named on the Arras Memorial, France.
Also named on the Glasgow Roll of Honour.

Named on the Glencairn Parish War Memorials as:

PTE. JOHN MARTIN.
John Martin – age 24 – Private (13379) 15th Battalion (1st Glasgow) Highland Light Infantry. (known as The Glasgow Tramways Battalion)
John had worked at Woodhead, Auldgirth, Dumfriesshire before he joined the Glasgow Corporation Tramways in 1911. He was living in 1071 Pollokshaws Road and was employed at the Newlands Depot when he enlisted in 1914. He landed with his battalion at Boulogne in November 1915.
Born 1891 in Keir, Dumfriesshire. Son of the late Agnes Helen (McKie) Martin (died 1895) and of William Halliday Martin, and step-son of Janet (Scott) Martin, of Snaid Mill Crossing and of Wallaceton, Glencairn who had married in 1899 in Ruthwell, Dumfriesshire.
Missing in Action on 3 July 1916 and named on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme, France.
Also named on the Glasgow Roll of Honour and on the GCT Newlands Depot memorial now in the Parkhead Depot.

Do we know what happened to these memorials following closure of the depot in late 2015?
Are they still here, or were they relocated again to the Riverside Museum, or to the replacement depot at Caledonia on Cathcart Road?
