I've read somewhere that mining communities which were used to sudden deaths of several of their men in a mine accident didn't feel the same need to erect memorials. This isn't true for all mining communities but you'll perhaps find that a lot of the newer memorials in Central and Southern Scotland are in former mining communities.

"Mrs Livingstone, 5 Flockhouse, Lochore, Fifeshire, has received official notification that her husband, Private Dougal Livingstone, 1st Black Watch, was killed in action at La Bassee on January 25. He was 21 years of age, was a native of Blantyre. and prior to the war was employed as a miner in the Mary Pit, Lochore."

On 14 March 2014 (TODAY), there will be a re-burial service for Private William McAleer and 19 unknown British soldiers of the First World War at Loos British Cemetery.........Only one of the soldiers had an identity tag, and this was 13766 Private William McAleer of the 7th Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers.

I agree Ken. There are no names on the memorial but if this was his residence on enlistment it seems appropriate.
