Cheers David - the man I'm after is:
Captain William McMillan Black, 58th Vaughan's Rifles, Indian Army.
Killed on 31 October 1914 and buried in Bethune Town Cemetery.
Born 1883 in Anwoth Manse, Gatehouse-of-Fleet, Kirkcudbrightshire.
Son of the Rev. William McMillan Black and of Amy (Greenshields) Black.
He seems to have enlisted in 1901 but was at the Academy on 1901 census. Commissioned in 1902 in 2nd RSF and served in SAfrica. Transferred in Indian Army in 1903.
Can you confirm these details and is there a photo?

From the War Supplement section:
HADDON, Walter (Register, page 493). Pre 9th R.S. 1914; 2nd Lt. 7th KOSB 1914. France 1915. 1914-15 Star, G.S. amnd Victory Medals. Died of wounds between 25 and 27 Sept. 1915. See also E.A. Ch. xxii.17.
I'm not sure what "E.A. Ch. xxii.17" refers to. It's not something in the book I have.
Page 493 has:
HADDON, Walter, 1903-5. Cl. 4a-5b. b 5 Nov 1887; s. of Walter Haddon, Solicitor and Banker, Colislinn, Hawick; Gym. VIII.
A.F.C.; Hosiery Manufacturer, Hawick. Address: Colislinn, Hawick. |
