LAW, JOHN A., DFC. Flying Officer, RAF. Pilot of Librator aircraft, Coastal Command. Awarded DFC in April 1945 for "flying with great distinction in a sortie, during which an armed enemy vessel, escorting a merchantman, was successfuly attacked" (citation). Killed on air operations off the coast of Sumatra, 13/8/45. Body last seen in the sea by the survivors.

One of the Cockleshell Heroes:

McKINNON, JOHN W. Lieutenant, Royal Marines. "Died on active service while engaged in special operations in France in December 1942" (Admiralty report). One of ten marines who volunteered to attack enemy blockade runners at Bordeaux. Launched in five "cockles" from submarine Tuna to entrance to Gironde estuary, 7/12/42. Sailed 50 miles to Bordeaux, attached "limpet" mines to enemy ships, destroyed three certainly, and probably five. One officer and one marine returned safely. Lieut. McKinnon is known to have been captured, and is buried at Banegux Cemetery, near Paris.
