GUTHRIE, ROBERT McD. Captain, Cameronians (S.R.). Transferred in 1942 to the Foreign Office as King's Messenger. One of Mr Churchill's party proceeding to Yalta Conference. As a member of the advance party, killed in the air crash of 1/2/45. Buried at Malta.

Member of the staff of the British Delegation to the Crimea Conference. Known to be buried in Malta at the Imtarfa Military Cemetery, Plot 1 Row 5 Joint Grave 18.

Not listed on the City of Glasgow Roll of Honour.

GUY, CHARLES M. Sergeant, RAF. Flight Engineer in Lancaster bomber, No. 514 Squadron, Waterbeach, Cambs. Killed on operation to Caen, Normandy, 30/7/44. Body recovered from the sea off the coast of Normandy by one of HM Ships and buried at sea.

Brother of the above Charles Guy.

GUY, ROBERT C. FLight Sergeant, RAF. Rear Gunner in Lancaster bomber, No. 514 Squadron, Waterbeach, Cambs. Killed when returning from operation near Paris, 8/6/44. Plane hit by flak, caught fire, and crashed at Celle-les-Bordes, Seine et Oise. Buried in communal cemetery there.

HEWLETT, ALFRED G. Driver, RASC. POW, North Africa, 1942. Drowned on transport between Tripoli and Italy, 27/2/42.

The ship he was lost on was the Italian ship the "Tembien" which was torpedoed by HMS Upholder. Hewlett had been captured at Tobruk.



CWGC and the Glasgow Roll of Honour give his name as George Hewlett.

This would appear to be the only likely casualty for this man / date / location, however if correct, the School Roll must be in error.
He died in air operations in the Dunkirk area.
