THOMAS LIVINGSTONE was born at 20 Abbey Street, Paisley, on 18 September, 1897.
His parents were Alexander Livingstone, a Smith’s Hammerman, and Elizabeth Ramsay or Livingstone.

His parents were married on 31st March, 1881, at Trinity Church, Paisley.
His paternal grandparents were Joseph Livingstone, a Smith’s Hammerman, and Mary Livingstone.
His maternal grandparents were James Ramsay, a wood farmer’s labourer, and Martha Watkins.

On 7th May, 1900, his mother Elizabeth Ramsay or Livingstone, age 37, died at 20 Abbey Street, Paisley.
Thomas Livingstone would have been 2 years and 7 months old at that time.

In the 1901 census, Thomas Livingstone, now age 4 was living with his father and siblings at 20 Abbey Street, Paisley.

On 10th August, 1910, his father Alexander Livingstone, age 48, died in Royal Alexandria Infirmary, Paisley. His ‘Usual Residence’ was 7 Mill Street, Paisley.
Thomas Livingstone would have been age 12 years 11 months at this time.

In the 1911 census, Thomas Livingstone now age 13, is living with his siblings at 2 Unsted Place, Paisley.

Thomas Livingstone, Robert Lang (my grandfather), and 10 others died on 24th April, 1917, at Villers-Plouich, France.
Thomas Livingstone was 19 years and 7 months old on 24th April, 1917..

In addition to the main memorial there is a plaque to commemorate the bombing of the Woodside First Aid Post on 6 May 1942, killing 96 people.

"News of the death of Sgt. Geo. Muir, 2nd A. and S.H., while a prisoner of war in Germany, has been received by his wife, who resides at 10 McKenzie Street, Paisley, from the Red Cross Agency for Prisoners of War at Geneva. Sergeant Muir was 28 years of age, and leaves a widow and two children. He enlisted eight years ago but had been in the reserve for three years, during which he was employed with Messrs J. and P. Coats. He had been missing since September 21. A brother of Sergeant Muir is also a prisoner of war."

"The deaths of another two Paisley soldiers are announced. Private John Higgins, Seaforth Highlanders, a Reservist with about 14 years service, was killed on April 25. Private Higgins, who was employed as a plater's helper, was called up at the outbreak of war. He was 31 years of age, and leaves a widow and three children, who reside at 22 Lawn Street, Paisley."

"Mrs Shaw, 21 High Street, Paisley, has received a letter from the Rev, Herbert Reid, chaplain of the 1-6th Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders (Paisley Territorials), now at the front, informing her that her husband, Private James Shaw, was killed last Wednesday. He was in the trenches when he was struck by a shell. Major Hugh Donald, the regimental doctor, attended him, but he did not regain consciousness. The chaplain adds in his letter that Private Shaw "was buried beside his comrades who were killed on Sunday." Private Shaw was 25 years of age, a native of Forres, and was employed by the Paisley and District Tramway Company when he joined the Army. He was married about a year ago."

"Private James McQuade (35), of the 1st Cameron Highlanders, was killed in action on May 9. Intimation of his death has been made to his wife, who resides at 10 Hannay Street, Paisley. Private McQuade first joined the Army 17 years ago. He fought through the South African War, and had four medals and clasps. Soon after the outbreak of the present war he rejoined his old regiment, and he was sent to France about Christmas. Previous to rejoining he was employed with Messrs Babcock and Wilcox."

"By the death of Private William D. Holms, son of Mrs Margaret Holms, 3 Calside Place, Paisley, who is officially notified as killed in action in Flanders on May 10, the number of Paisley men who have died on service reaches 100. Private Holms enlisted in the 2nd Cameron Highlanders in September, and went to the front in January. Previous to joining the Army he was employed with Messrs Kilpatrick and Sons, plumber and electricians, Paisley."

"Information of the death of Private James Watson, Scottish Rifles, has been received. He was killed on May 9. He enlisted in September, and has been at the front since the beginning of March. Before enlisting he was employed with Messrs John Marshall and Co., ironfounders, Paisley. Private Marshall's wife died some months ago, and he leaves six children, who live at 2 Mossvale Lane, Paisley."

"Mrs Handley, 92 New Sneddon Street, Paisley, has been officially informed that her brother, Private J. Flannagan, 3rd H.L.I., was killed by a shell on May 14. He was 24 years of age, and had served for seven years in the Army. He was undergoing his annual training as a Reservist when the war commenced, and was mobilised, going to France in early November."

The following article was in the Daily Record and Mail Thursday July 20, 1916
"PAISLEY OFFICER KILLED
News has reached Paisley that Lieut. William W. Paterson, of the firm Messrs D. D. Dickie, Son and Paterson, writers, High Street, has been killed at the front. The deceased, who was about 30 years of age, was a son of Rev. John Paterson, Wellwynd Church, Airdrie, and took over the above-mentioned partnership about four years ago. At the outbreak of war he enlisted in the H.L.I. as a private. His promotion was rapid, and before last New Year he was granted his commission. His mother resides at 5 Victoria Terrace, Dowanhill, Glasgow"
