For conspicuous gallantry and ability during the operations north of Avesnes-le-Sec on October 13th, 1918, in command of one of the front line companies. When his company came under very heavy shell and machine-gun fire, he moved continuously among the men, encouraging them and directing the advance. Later, when the advance was held up by very heavy machine-gun fire, he personally directed the consolidation of the line captured.

Additional Information
CWGC spell his first name as EWAN. Glw Uni. spells the last name as MCKENZIE (11th Gordon Highlanders)

Bellahouston Academy spells it properly and as Gordon Highlanders attached to RAF.
He was the son of the late Mr James Mackenzie and of Mrs Mackenzie, 1 Buckingham Terrace, Govan. At school he was a very distinguished athlete and was school champion in 1907. He excelled in running and jumping and was goalkeeper both in the school and Former Pupils’ football teams for several years. He became a teacher and previous to his entering the Army was on the staff of Fairfield Public School. In September 1914 he enlisted in the Cameron Highlanders. In April 1915 he received a commission in the Gordon Highlanders. Attached to the 10th London Regiment he served in Palestine and took part in the fighting at Gaza. On his transfer to the Royal Air Force he saw further service in Egypt. Later he returned to England where he acted as an instructor. On the 9th November 1918 he died in the Military Hospital, Lincoln of Malaria and Pneumonia. Lieutenant Mackenzie was offered complete discharge with pension on five different occasions between 1916 and 1919. (Bellahouston Academy War Memorial RoH)

His Medal Card is indexed as EWALL and the actual MIC has EWARE and lists Yorkshire Regt, RFC and RAF.
SNWM has him as EWEN - RAF and under "Other" has 34 TDS Yorks. Regt.

Temp/2nd Lt. Ewen C. Mackenzie, Gordon Highlanders, was posted as a Temp. Lt. in the Garrison Battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment on 24/11/1915 (London Gazette 21/12/15 p.12783)
He was posted as a Flying Officer, RFC General List on 21 August 1917 (London Gazette 30/10/17 p.11277)
In May 1918 he was posted to 81 Training Squadron, RFC at Scampton, Lincolnshire and on 7 August was appointed Navigation Officer at 34 Training Depot Station (TDS), Scampton.
He was admitted to the No.4 Northern General Hospital in Lincoln on 5 November 1918 and died there 4 days later.
He died of pneumonia - from Airmen who Died in WW1)
His service file gives his next of kin as his mother Mrs. M.A.Kenzie (sic) of 1 Buckingham Terrace, Ibrox, Glasgow which is the same as the Glasgow RoH. (Great War Forum)
He is commemorated on the Jordanhill Teacher Training College Memorial (1909), Glasgow University RoH & Bellahouston Academy War Memorial.

Captain Robert B. Millar, son of Mr & Mrs James Millar, 761 Dalmarnock Road, Glasgow was killed in action on July 24. Captain Millar who was an MA of Glasgow University and was a teacher in Oatlands, joined the Royal Scots Fusiliers in 1914 as a private and after serving 18 months in France obtained a commission and was attached to the Royal Scots. After his recovery from wounds in 1916 he was transferred to the Machine Gun Section.
