Kenny - thought you might be interested in the following from the Great War Forum
http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=58565&hl=

The Band, comprising 24 bandsmen under Bandmaster 1st Class WE Faithfull, was formed at the Royal Naval School of Music, then at Eastney Barracks, Portsmouth. It was attached to the first RN Brigade with additional duties as a Medical Aid Party. On the night of 7th October 1914 due to obstruction of roads by civilian refugees it strayed into Holland and was interned.

The band was repatriated (the Dutch classing them as non-combatants) and returned to the Royal Naval Division Depot at Crystal Palace in time to lead the Lord Mayors Show in the City of London in November 1914.

On the 25th April 1915 the band landed at Gallipoli, it was now allocated as band to the Drake Battallion with additional duties as stretcher bearers. Bandmaster Faithfull was mentioned in despatches for his leadership of the band. Three bandsmen were killed:- SJ Billings, BL Kensey and AJ Harper.

I had posted details of your photographs for researchers of Drake Battalion and it's got some folks quite excited.

Glad it's turned-out to be useful!

I suppose it's quite possible that other companies or contingents were put to other 'big houses' in the county, there were plenty of them (some claim Berwickshire had more mansions, per squaremile, than anywhere outwith London). I only uncovered this roll as it was listed on UKNIWN.

I'd imagine such stationings might be mentioned in the local weekly paper the Berwickshire Advertiser.
