These photos were taken a while ago (over 5 years) - I wonder if it has been cleaned up since then. _________________ www.sonsofgalloway.org.uk

UKNIWM Ref: 5874
UKNIWM has this named as the Old Luce memorial with location as Glenluce
UKNIWM has the OS Map Ref as NX 190 570 but I think that is probably a little off because I think the memorial is south of the road, but the given location is north. I will put the correct location in when I have confirmed it. |

I have confirmed that the OS Map Ref on UKNIWM is incorrect. The correct ref is NX 201 576.
Unfortunately the memorial is overdue for some love and attention. My pics add nothing to the memorial except an example to show its condition.

It may have been researched Paul, but if you compare the names on the memorial against the names on the Roll of Honour website you can see quite a few errors in the transcription. That may explain why they have been unable to find anything for A. Alexander, that is because it is actually J Alexander on the memorial.

That's what I like about the way we work. Someone puts the info on the forum, it is subjected to peer review and any errors or omissions are hopefully identified and corrected. I think it gives us collectively the edge in accuracy over other ways of doing things.

You've hit the nail on the head. With the forum anyone can see the photographs and update with corrections. Unfortunately on the Wigtownshire bit of the Roll of Honour site there are no photographs of the name panels and only a cross reference against our forum shows up the mistakes.
One I'm not sure of is on the third Great War panel. It looks like Private A McNarrie but RoH has him as Henry McHarrie
Cheers

Sorry, I don't have any photos of the name panels, just the one I posted. I suggest you PM Stewartry to see if he has a high res. Otherwise I will try and get back that way but it may be a few weeks.

Sorry for the delay, only just got back to check, definately A McHarrie. I have taken fresh pics but they are not significantly better so I won't bother to post them.
