The Duncan Taylor listed may be this man. His great-great niece has been in touch and informed us he was born in Saltcoats. The 4th Regt South African Infantry was the South African Scottish.

He is listed on the SNWM roll but no place of birth is given so his inclusion will be because of his unit.

Try visting the SNWM and see the "Scots" listed under South African and CEF Rolls.

I'd be interested to know of the Scottish family connection to these two men commemorated in the SNWM, who just so happened to serve in Highland units of the Canadian and South African armies.

I have no idea, why not ask SNWM to check their records? Maybe the mother was Scots or they were both born here.
They could also clear up whether every member of the the Canadian Scottish, Royal Highlanders of Canada, etc, who fell during WW1 qualify for their Rolls.

Harold Ulmont Zwicker (one of 35 Zwickers to enlist) was born in Caledonia, Nova Scotia and served with the Royal Highlanders of Canada (42nd CEF) I think we could count him as at least an honourary Scot??
