Owing to a recent refurbishment the roll has not yet been rehung.
Unfortunately the roll has yellowed, and its ink has faded - making it very hard to read. I took a dictaphone recording of the names and I might load them up at some point. Note 26 men are shown on the plaque... 15 on the roll. It could be as its a contemporary roll that someone stopped updating but more likely I think, its "Congregational" heading means it was just for members, not members and adherents as is usually the case.
It was printed by James Waterstones, Edinburgh.

with some doubt over Nisbet and Patterson.

Article on the unveiling, 2 years before Coldingham's civic memorial.
The Scotsman, 6th September 1921
COLDINGHAM - In the ancient Priory Church at Coldingham a memorial has been unveiled to the 26 men of the congregation who gave their lives in the war. The memorial, which was unveiled by Captain Stirling-Cookson MC, of Renton, Grantshouse, takes the form of a stained glass window depicting the reward of victory, and a handsome brass tablet, on which are inscribed the names of the fallen.
The memorial, which is placed in the early English wall at the north side of the church, is entirely keeping with the building. Dr Jas A McClymont, the Moderator of the Church of Scotland, who preached on the occasion and dedicated the memorial, urged that spirit of sacrifice, comradeship, and brotherhood shown during the war might be brought into life in times of peace to allay class antagonism and unrest. Other ministers taking part in the service were the Rev Jas Scott, UF Church, and the Rev HM Lamont, parish minister. |
