"Mrs Moyes, 11 Hamilton Road, Rutherglen, has been informed that her husband, Private David Moyes (7683), 2nd Battalion H.L.I. was killed in the trenches on March 3. He was well known and respected in Rutherglen, was 23 years of age, and joined his regiment three years ago."

"Mrs Allison, residing at 58 High Street, Rutherglen, has received intelligence of the death of her husband, Private John Allison, of the 2nd Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers. He was mortally wounded at Neuve Chapelle. Allison joined the Army when he was very young, and after being discharged entered the service of Messrs J. and J. White, Shawfield, Rutherglen. He was called up at the beginning of the war, and had seen considerable service. He fought in South Africa but had never received a scratch. He had two medals with six bars. Allison was 39 years of age and leaves a widow and three children, the eldest being 10 years of age."

His age is unclear. In the article it's given as 22, in the war return as 24 and CWGC as 26.

(Glasgow Herald 19th March 1915)
"Intimation has been received by Mr William Russell, 24 Greenbank Street, Rutherglen, of the death of his son, Private William Gregor Russell (22), of the Cameron Highlanders. He was shot through the head in the trenches. Russell was a native of Rutherglen, and joined the Army in November. He had been in the trenches since the beginning of March. Before enlisting he was a blacksmith in the Scotia, Rivet, Nut and Bolt Works at Rutherglen. He had gained some distinction as an amateur artist in water-colour."

The 1901 census gives his year of birth as 1891 so that makes the war return the correct age. In 1901 his mother had died and his father was a pastry baker and along with his two sisters Margaret and Jessie he was living with his cousin Jeannie Handyside at 57, Main Street, Rutherglen.

"Private Charles Williamson, of the 2nd Seaforth Highlanders, died in a hospital in France on Sunday afternoon. On the afternoon previous he had been taken to the hospital dangerously wounded. Williamson, who was a native of Inverness, was a motorman on the Glasgow tramways. He resided in Rutherglen, and leaves a widow and four young children."

He rejoined the Army in December by enlisting in the Northumberland Fusiliers. Previous to rejoining the Army he was employed with messrs J. and J. White, Shawfield chemical works, Ruthergen."
