Kildalton and Oa Parish Memorial, Port Ellen, Islay
UKNIWM Ref No 44794
The memorial is a square section rough dressed grey granite stepped plinth and block which are about 3m high. The WW1 inscriptions and names of fallen are on polished grey granite panels with black lettering on 3 sides if the memorial. The main inscription is towards the road. The other panels are on either side. The WW2 inscription is on the plinth on the same face as the WW1 inscription. The new stone with the Egypt and N Ireland names are on a side face of the plinth. Above the block is a kilted highland soldier with pack and canteen. He wears a highlander’s bonnet and has his head bowed. His hands rest on the butt of his rifle which rests by its barrel on the top of the block. He faces the same direction as the main inscriptions. The statue is about 2m high. The memorial is set on a grassy knoll by the yacht pontoons and ferry terminal close to the A846. It is surrounded by low metal railings and gained by 6 stone steps.

That certainly looks like another memorial by Stewart & Co. of Aberdeen and the sculpture looks like it could be another of Robert Warrack Morrisons. It looks very similar to Ballachuillish and Tough. Was the sculptors name on the monument Alex?
Photo of an old postcard showing the memorial.
