Hi,

I have covered around a 1/3 of the cemetery for the War Memorial Project photographing war graves. I have been unable to find the other War Memorials listed in the Aberdeen City Topic. Can anyone give me a hint as to what I am looking for ie are they large plaques small memorials?

Royal British Legion , Location - Trinity Cemetery , UKNIWM reference number 5840
South African War Veterans Association , Location - Trinity Cemetery , UKNIWM reference number 5839
C & E Morton Ltd , Location - Trinity Cemetery, Errol Street , UKNIWM reference number 5838

This one I do have, not sure if I have posted it though.
Naval Authorities , Location - Trinity Cemetery, Errol Street , UKNIWM reference number 5841

Regards,
Andy

Hi Andy

Have you looked these up on UKNIWM? http://www.ukniwm.org.uk/. i suggest the detailed search and use the UKNIWM ref number. The first two are described as a pillar/column and the latter is a rectangular table on a plinth. All 3 are maintained by the british legion and that would probably your best bet for a detailed location.

The South African War Veterans Association plaque appears in a book entitled "Military History Sources for Family Historians: The Anglo-Boer War" by Phil Tomaselli, which I have sitting on my shelves at the moment. However, it's a recent book and therefore there would be a copyright issue in reproducing the picture for the forum.

It lists 55 men, the last of whom died in 1965. It lists name, regiment and date of death. Some of the men it lists a rank and occasionally a number. The names are in three colums, the last of which only contains three names. There may have been more additions since the photo was taken.

It looks to me to be in the form of a large grave-stone type memorial, with a flat panel containing the names. However, the photograph only shows the names and not the whole memorial, so I can;t be sure.

Hope this information helps.
