"A letter from the front reports that Private Wm. Harley, A Coy., 7th A. and S.H. has been killed in action. Private Harley, who was 20 years of age, enlisted in the Territorials last year, and prior to going to the front was employed as an appprentice fitter in Laurieston Iron Works, Falkirk. His mother resides at Victoria Road, Falkirk."

"Mrs Smellie, Burnhead Lane, Falkirk, has received official intimation that her husband, Private James Smellie, A Company, 1st Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, was killed in action on April 24. Private Smellie was a Reservist, and had served 15 years in the 3rd Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, with which he went through the Boer War. He held the Queen's South Africe medal. Private Smellie was employed as a moulder in Callendar Foundry, Falkirk."

Private Shields joined the Territorials in September. He was 20 years of age, and before enlisting was emloyed as an Irondresser in Grahamston Iron works, Falkirk."

"Information has been received by his parents, who reside at Bainsford, Falkirk, of the death of Private Archibald Leishman, of the 1st Battalion of the Scots Guards. In a letter from a comrade, Private William Ford, it is stated that Private Leishman was Killed in action on 25th January.He had gone into the trenches in the morning, and about an hour later he was shot dead by a German sniper. Private Leishman was twenty four years of age. He joined the colours on 5th September, and had been at the front for five weeks."

"Information has been received by his relatives, who reside in Falkirk, of the death in action of Private William Fraser, 1st Battalion Scots Guards. The news is contained in a letter received from a comrade, who states that Private Fraser was killed at a loophole in the trenches on March 4, a bullet entering his temple. Private Fraser, who was 25 years of age, enlisted at the outbreak of the war in the Royal Field Artillery, and was subsequently transferred to the 1st Scots Guards, being drafted to the front at Christmas. Before joining the colours he was employed as a moulder in Gowanbank Foundry, Falkirk."

Private Lindsay had been 12 years in the army, and had served in Egypt and India, returning from the latter country to Britain at the end of last year, prior to proceeding to the front. He was 27 years of age. Recently news was received of the death of his brother, Piper William Lindsay, 7th Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (Territorial Force), on April 25."

His two brothers are serving at present in the 7th A. & S.H., and his half brother, who was also in the Argylls, was recently killed in France. Private Baird, who had been to India, went to the front in January. His parents reside in Falkirk."
