"Yesterday official information was received from the War Office that Private John Monaghan, 2nd Scottish Rifles, had been killed at the battle of Neuve Chapelle. Previous to enlisting he was employed as a miner in the Bredisholm Collieries, near Uddingston, and resided at 19 Newlands Rows, Nackerty. He was 31 year of age, and leaves a widow and three young children."

"Yesterday morning a telegram was received by Mr James Robertson, Mayfield, Bellshill Road, Uddingston, from the Canadian Record Office, London, stating that his son, private Thomas Robertson (27115), 15th Battalion Canadians, had died of hemorrhage. Thomas Robertson was 26 years of age, and went to Toronto, Canada, three and a half years ago. He was employed as a banker and joined the Canadians some months ago to fight for the mother country."

"Sergeant William C. Gordon, 2nd Seaforth Highlanders, was killed in action on April 25. He was only 23 years of age, and enlisted seven years ago, and had acted as instructor in Elgin, Thurso and Cromarty, where he was well known. He was only married last December. It is reported he was one of the contingent sent to recapture Hill 60 at any cost, and fell along with many others in front of a mile length of open fire. He was at one time in the employment of Mr Robert Newlands, tailor and clothier, Uddingston, where his parents reside."

"Private 'Lennie' Thomson, who resided with his brother, N. Whitehead Thomson, Laurelbank, Uddingston, was killed in action. He was one of an Uddingston contingent who joined Bothwell "E" Company, and is reported to have been shot through the head. His parents reside in Peebles."
