The Scotsman - Wednesday 27 December 1922
WAR MEMORIALS
BLACKNESS.—The memorial to the men of Blackness district takes the form of a clock tower, built of Rubislaw granite. It stands by the main road leading into the village, and the proceedings on Saturday were taken part in by the Rev. William Dundas, B.D., Carriden Parish Church, the Rev. Oliphant Johnston, B.D., Abercorn Parish Church, and the Rev. S. E. Easter, St Catherine's Episcopal Church. The unveiling ceremony was performed by the resident landlord, Col. H. M. Cadell, D.L., of Grange, Linlithgow, and the dedication by the Rev. Mr Dundas. Provost John Grant presided. The cost of the memorial was £200, which was raised by voluntary effort.

I thought that square of granite at the top was more recent - it's where the clock would have been.
Any photos of the memorial as it was? |
