The Courier & Advertiser (Angus & Mearns edition) for Thursday 27th Sept 2012 reports "Volunteers' delight at VC memorial " It would appear that the Carnoustie branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland has organised the tribute to the two VC's of the Great war who had connections to the town .

The Princess Royal is to unveil two plaques to LANCE CORPORAL CHARLES ALFRED JARVIS and PETTY OFFICER GEORGE MCKENZIE SAMSON who both received the Victoria Cross for their bravery during the Great War. The Ceremony will take place on October 16th .

" The newspaper reports "Plaques were taken away to be restored and polished but because their wording related to specific streets it was eventually decided new versions would be commissioned. A metal worker from Nairn was hired to make slightly altered copies , which have now been installed at CARNOUSTIE WAR MEMORIAL " .

The original plaques will be taken into the British Legion Hall in Dundee Street carnoustie and the council has pledged to place signs in both JARVIS and SAMSON PLACE , detailing who the streets were named after . Relatives of Mr Samson will be invited to the Ceremony at the Memorial however, no family members of Mr JARVIS could be traced . ( Lance Cpl Jarvis was born in Fraserburgh but spent his formative years in Carnoustie ).

Thread moved to the general section until we can have someone photograph these plaques in order to add them to the project.
