A little more on Gilbert Galloway from the Wigtownshire Free Post 26/11/1942. "Mrs A Dixon, Monreith Home Farm, Port William, has been notified that her second son, Gilbert Galloway, has been killed in action in Libya. He was educated at Port William and Whithorn schools, and served his apprenticeship to the Scotch trade in London. He had just started in business for himself when war broke out. Almost immediately he joined up and was posted to the Duke of Wellington's Regiment, but was later transferred to a Scottish regiment in the 51st Division. He was a lad of bright personality and very poular among his friends in Port William. He was an enthusiatic member of the London Galloway Association and seldom missed a meeting. He was married only last December, and much sympathy is felt for his young widow, his mother, and the other members of his family in their bereavement.
