Oops Embarassed

Schoolboy error there, should have done a check using the search function and not just relied on scanning the index.

Cheers

Confirmation of the Lenzie memorial although it looks like there will be no names unfortunately

From 'The Scotsman' - Monday, 11th April 1921, page 5

LENZIE

The bronze tablet erected by the ex-service men of Lenzie in the Public Hall in memory of their comrades who fell in the war was unveiled yesterday afternoon by Colonel Denny. No roll of honour is inscribed upon the tablet, but a parchment scroll containing 74 names of fallen comrades was placed in a glass cylinder by the Colonel, and deposited in a cavity in the tablet.

A Dumbarton Church memorial from 1921. This brass plaque may not be in its original location. The church will have changed its name in 1929 anyway.

The Scotsman - Monday, 11th April 1921, page 5

Dumbarton
There was unveiled in the High Street U.F. Church, Dumbarton, yesterday a memorial brass containing 11 names of members of the congregation who fell during the war. The tablet was unveiled by Mrs James Craig, of Linwood, Dumbarton.

From the website of New Kilpatrick Parish Church. Since the 1909 extension a fine collection of stained glass has been installed in the church. These windows include War Memorials and windows dedicated to the memory of parishioners;

There's a covenanter memorial to three men in Townhead.

http://townhead.eveningtimes.co.uk/area/what-do-you-know-about-the-townhead.html

At the top of Castle Street was the city limits beyond which was the "Howgate". This was the scene of public hangings in the 16th century.

A scene that continued until 1781. Most of those martyred are believe to have been Covenanters. Junction 15 of the M8 motorway replaces the old "Howgate" area.

Today outside the new Martyrs' Church (moved to this location in 1975) is the Martyrs stone. It marks executions in 1684 of James Nisbet (a farmer from Louden Parish in Ayrshire), James Lawson and Alex Wood.

The stone originally stood in front of the Townhead library (which was at the M8 junction 15 East bound on ramp) which, along with a large part of the once densly packed Townhead, was demolished to make way for the M8 motorway.

This scattered the once large community through out Glasgow in the early 70s and removed many of its old churches and local amenities over the next 15 years.

Within the Martyrs church is the "Martyrs church bell" which has been preserved from the old Martyrs West church building.
