Pothlethen is in the old parish of Banchory Devenick; I did not find a WM in other part of the parish. See my post for Banchory Devenick. |

Here is John's post about Banchory Devenick. I don't think its should have a seperate thread

It is, and I just happened to stumble across this entry.
(Glasgow herald 6th May 1915)
"Information reached Aberdeen yesterday of the death in hospital in Portsmouth on Saturday last of Major James Masson, Royal Scots Fusiliers. Major Masson, who was 57 years of age, was the eldest son of the late James Masson, Kirkcroft, and of Mrs Masson, Hillside, portlethen, Kincardineshire."

Maybe an error but probably because he had left the area many decades earlier and had very little to connect him locally. He was aged 56 residing at Portsmouth, after all, and may well have been added later because he was an " officer ".
This memorial is for the Parish of Banchory Devenick and not Portlethen. Portlethen is miles away, but in the parish. Banchory Devenick kirk is in the background.
Could a Moderator change the listing to correct this please? _________________ Jim
