Age: 19 (actually 17)

Derek

I had the CWGC record checked thinking it may be a scan error, but it confirms the age given and verified in the original record by his family was 19.

Jim,

I'm sure the CGWC records are accurate as per the info they have, which you checked were confirmed by the n.o.k.
I can only surmise he lied about his age to enlist and ěs parents chose not to have it corrected?

I did look up his Birth Certificate which agrees with the newspaper article.

Cheers,
Derek.

Derek

I am not doubting the true age, and can agree the scenario you describe may well be correct.
He was in France exactly one month.
