Would it be beneficial keeping a list of all those groups and sites who have us linked? I for one am unsure but having this list would allow a reference and then we could suggest/add others that are not already on. |

Off the top of my head, and there will be more that I haven;t mentioned:
War Memorials Trust
UK National Inventory of War Memorials
Canadian Expeditionary Force Discussion Group
Lanarkshire Family History Society
North East War Memorials Project
Highland Family History Society
There has also been as sumbission to Cyndi's List. As of this moment we are in the "uncategorised" section, but we will hopefully be moved to a relevant section in due course. I'm told it can take some time, though.
We've also been mentioned on several forums, including:
Talking Scot forum
Rootsweb
Great War Forum
British Medals Forum
Lost Generation 14-18 Forum |

Surprisingly, we are NOT on http://www.roll-of-honour.com/Links/ but I know the site owner has visited our site. I will mail him to ask him to add a link. He has an excellent list of links and there would be some candidates for us. |

Visited, and advertised his site. Would be nice if he could return the favour to us... |

Just got a mail back from Martin Edwards re Roll-of-honour site. He is re-doing his links page and will certainly add our forum. He will also add links to individual memorials on our forum as he adds them to his own site.

I've included a link on
www.alexandercarrick.webeden.co.uk
I only discovered recently that having lots of links to your website from other websites strongly influences your placement on search engines, apparently more than the number of hits you have on your site. The search engines consider how many links there are to your site to be a better indication of quality so its well worth the effort trying persuade others to include a link to this site. |

Jim,
Very interesting info. I think that getting 'linked' with as many other sites as possible will be very important then.
I will try and think of a few and see what the response is. Sometimes it's like banging you head off a brick wall though.
Anyway, I'm sure most will welcome the suggestion as the 'quality' is not in doubt
I know we are linked to royalhighlanders.co.uk which itself shows mostly pics of Angus War memorials.
I think that perhaps the sites we have shown in our 'links' section should be contacted to 'return the favour'? |

David,
for your information I sent the following to the Scottish Catholic Observer newspaper and it was printed in this weeks issue. Would it be worthwhile having a section of publications we have notified so there is no duplication. If someone knows of one which is not on the list they could contact them.
The Scottish War Memorials Forum has been set up to record photographs and details of all war memorials in Scotland. These can be civic memorials, school memorials, work memorials, individual memorials and church memorials.
I would appeal to your readers to visit the website
http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/faq.php
and if they know of a memorial not listed, to contact the website with
details. Many have already been lost. As in the coming years we may see the closure of some of our older churches it is important we take action now.
In this way we can live up to the words on many of the memorials
- We Will Remember Them. |

John,
Well done, good work.
I posted a wee while back that we should, at some point, get an article in the newspapers, nationally - and I think we still should.
I think it only appropriate that David should tell when the moment for that is right. I'm not suggesting a fanfare of trumpets just a decent piece so everyone is aware of the site, thats all.
There are obviously other things being worked on that we are not privy to just now.
David deserves enormous credit for this idea taking off and there are a good few of us who are working hard to drive this project on and make it successful.
I think it is very important and is/will be an excellent resource. |

I second that. Thanks for taking the time to do this. As far as I know that is our first mention on paper rather than online.
We are also linked to the North East War Memorials project and a Sutherland Genealogy website - Countysutherland.co.uk
Regards

Here is reply I got from Fife Family History Society.
The Fife Family History Society Journal has just gone to press and will be
sent out this Friday; so it will not be until the September issue that I can
publicise the work on the war memorials
I will copy your mail for our webmaster and send it on
Me - I will monitor their website. I have also written to Aberdeen and NE Scotland FHS. I intend writing to the other FHS in Scotland (if they have not already got a link) |

Can you leave Dumfries Family History Society to me please? I am a member and should have done it before now. Guilty conscience |
