Photographs of this Memorial were previously posted as 'Camelon'.

This was entirely my fault as I didn't realise at the time there were plans to erect a completly separate memorial to Camelon men and women, so I'll now re-post the photos.

There are no names on any of the plaques.

"The death is reported, though not officially, of Colour-Seargent William Sutherland, of the 2nd Battalion of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, a comrade in a letter from the front stating that he was shot through the head.
Colour-Sergeant Sutherland, who was a native of Falkirk, served with the colours for eight years, part of that period being spent in South Africa. While in the Army he came into prominence as a football player. Amongst the clubs with which he was connected were King's Park, Plymouth Argyle, Southend United, and while playing for the last mentioned club he toured in Germany. He has been reported as missing by the War office since August 29.

It looks like the small metal fence around the main part of the memorial is a later addition and that there was once metal railings on the outer wall.

"Mr John Main, 14 Melrose Place, Falkirk, had received intimation from the War Office authorities that his son, Private William Main, 1st Battalion Royal Scots, has been killed in action. Private Main, who was 21 years of age, joined the Royal Scots three years ago and served with his regiment in India for nearly a year previous to its leaving there in September last. He was sent to France in December of last year. Prior to joining the colours he was employed as a moulder with the Callendar Iron Company (Limited), Falkirk, A brother of Private Main, Private John Main, who is in the R.A.M.C. is a prisoner of war in Germany, and another brother, Private Neil Main, is in the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles)."

"Further casualties amongst the Falkirk Territorials in the 7th Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders continue to be reported. Private Muirhead has died of wounds. He served for six years in the Stirlingshire Militia and fought in the Boer War, for which he held the Queen's South Africa Medal. He had been in the Territorials for a number of years, and was employed as a moulder in the Mungal Foundry, Falkirk. This is the second Falkirk man in the Battalion who has been reported to have died of wounds."

He was the elder son of Mr Hugh Miller, head salesman at the stores of Mr James D. Tait Company, St Catherine's, Ontario, formerly head salesman in the Co-operative Stores at Camelon and Lochgelly. Miller was born in Falkirk 21 years ago, and before enlisting was employed in the Canadian Express Company offices in Ontario."

"News has been received by his sister, who resides at George Terrace, Camelon, Falkirk, of the death from wounds of Private George Gardner, 2nd Cameron Highlanders. Private Gardner, who was a Reservist, had formerly served with his regiment in China, South Africa and Malta. At the outbreak of war he was recalled to the colours, and went to the front about the beginning of September. On the 25th of that month he was wounded and invalided home. He returned to the front about the beggining of March, and his death from wounds took place on April 24. Prior to the outbreak of the war he was employed as a grinder in the Gothic Foundry, Camelon, Falkirk."
