Stewart Charles Piper 9615 1st Highland Light Infantry b Aberdeen e Aberdeen Killed in Action F & F 18-May-15 City Roll of Honour: 20 Miller St; Le Touret Memorial M. R. 22 Panel 37 & 38

(Glasgow Herald 9th June 1915)
"Piper Charles Stewart, of the 1st Highland Light Infantry, was sniped on May 18, and fell dead into the arms of a comrade, Corporal Reid, who was on duty with him at the time. The Pipers mother, Mrs Dunn, 7 Shore Brae, received official confirmation of the death yesterday. Although only 27 years of age, Piper Stewart served with his battalion for 10 years in India, having enlisted as a boy. He saw a lot of hard fighting in the early winter months, when the H.L.I. suffered severely, following which he had a short furlough. He was a very popular soldier, and held in high regard in the regiment."
