I went to Carsphairn where wreaths were laid by the community council and Hugh Clark-Kennedy whose ancestor donated the land on which the memorial was built and unveiled it. Respects were also paid by children of the community who placed paintings at the memorial.

I also took the opportunity to pay my respects at the grave of Marmaduke Macrae, Great Great Grandfather to Lt Col John McCrae who wrote 'In Flanders Fields'. Earlier this year I was fortunate to visit Essex Farm in Belgium where he wrote the poem.

I took my daughter to George Square in Glasgow. She wore her grandfathers medals, which made me very proud indeed.

my wife and I attended the Royal British Legion Scotland parade and service at the ARBROATH WAR MEMORIAL overlooking the cauld North Sea this morning and the parade was led by the Pipes & Drums of the RBLS Arbroath branch (senior and junior pipeband it seemed ) with a contingent from RM Condor of 45 Commando , Royal Artillery (TA Battery ) arbroath and Veterans and Cadet corps and Black Watch Assoc too . At 11am the Artillery fired a field gun to start the 2 mins silence and another to end that silence followed by a bugler and a Piper playing a lament . Arbroath War Memorial lists casualties from WW1 and WW2 and Northern Ireland as well as my namesake Uncle Lieut P W Anderson , BW & RFC RAF dof wounds arbroath and the minister conducting the service at the war memorial told me that my uncle's name had been read out at the Kirk in Arbroath already that morning at the St Marys Scottish Episcopal Church in the town . After the parade headed off to the Legion rooms still in the sunshine my wife went then to lay a poppy cross at the wee dog's grave in the McDonald park in the town -- regimental dog "Paddy " Highland Cyclist Bn Dog who died January 1918 at the battalion camp then onto the Arbroath's Western Cemetery to lay my Poppy Wreath at my Namesake Uncle's grave in Compartment D as I paid for a headstone at his grave in 1994 . My wife laid a poppy cross for her Gr Uncle kia France 1918 West Kents and her Uncle kia Tunisia 1941 (both these have war graves in these two countries )

A good turn out at the Arbroath War Memorial on a nice warm sunny day for a change

WE WILL REMEMBER THEM :

Patrick w anderson

( the legion standard bearers and bugler and piper then go to the Arbroath Western Cemetery war graves and play a lament etc there before going to the Arbroath Eastern Cemetery and then onto Friockheim cemetery and Kinnell kirkyard for their Poppy Wreath laying )

I was at my Church in Coatbridge, on parade with my Guide Unit along with Girls Brigade and Boys Brigade. Some of the young people were involved in the service.
The War Memorial Books I completed were displayed on the Communion Table instead of the Memorial Room.

I was at the Arbroath ceremony and took part in the parade as part of the RNLI contingent. I saw Pat (Keptie), from a distance!

As usual it was back to the RBL clubrooms for refreshments, there i had the pleasure of chatting to former marine Les Daniels, a Falklands veteran.
He was among the 22 man force defending South Georgia against the Argentine invasion. He received a Mention in Despatches for his efforts that day, particularly in his laying of mines and setting of booby traps.

Derek.

I was in The Poppy Parade with my friends from The War Research Society we walked through the gate and got to the barrier and the weather was the warmest in 20 years I've been going.
We were right by the pipe bands and the service was so good.
Only got back from the trip last night about 22.00.

I was at the Menin Gate one Wednedsday in June and it was packed then, I cannot imagine how crowded it must have been for remembrance.

The roads are closed and the barriers are up on the road from outside the Cloth Hall right to the gate. It's amazing. Crowds and crowds of people.
If your mate is wearing a blazer and grey flannels and beret you have to watch out not to follow the wrong one.....it does happen. One minute you are looking at the panels and then you look for the fellow traveller who knows how to get back to the coach. Where to start looking for one lost person is time consuming I've just been there this trip.

I laid the first wreath after my colleage gave the Exhortation a couple of years ago.
This November I was in Whitehall.
