Cook, James, Highland Light Infantry, Private

Private Cook was killed in the Gretna Rail Crash. He is one of several HLI men who died along with the 1/7th Royal Scots that day.

he is buried alongside them in Rosebank Cemetery in Edinburgh

This may be John Brown who is commemorated on this stone at Leadhills.

In loving memory of our father Thomas Brown who died 7th May 1921 aged 73 years; also our mother Mary Baird who died 17th May 1909 aged 60 years; also their son John Brown beloved husband of Jean Wilson who fell in action near Lille 15th April 1918; also their grandson George Brown who died 27th August 1924 aged 22 years.

The two Cook brothers who died during WW1 are listed on the family stone in Leadhills Burying Ground.

Erected by William in loving memory of his wife Ann Stevenson Veitch who died 5th October 1902 aged 69 years; also their four children who died in infancy; also the above William Cook who died 18th January 1908 aged 71 years; also Mary Watson beloved wife of John Cook who died 21st Nov 1925 aged 66 years; also their sons, James Cook who was killed in Gretna disaster 22nd May 1915 aged 27 years; also William McDonald Cook who fell in action at the Somme 3rd July 1916 aged 32 years; also the above John Cook who died 31st Dec 1934 aged 73 years. Blessed are the dead that died in the Lord.

This might be David Blyth Hope on a stone at Leadhills, son of John Hope & Janet Gibson.

also David their son who fell in action in France 20th Sept 1917 aged 22 years.

According to a family stone at Leadhills, David McLean died on active service in Durban, South Africa, from fever 3rd Jany 1917 aged 22 years.
