Any chance of getting us linked on the SCOTS AT WAR site. I see they have 3 external links from their Roll of Honour Section (the Montrose, Angus one hasn't worked for some time though!)

I think that people who are interested enough to submit names for inclusion could submit extra info, if they wanted, on the forum.

N.B.
I hadn't been on the site for some time but two names are now on for Blairgowrie - David Phillips Farquharson & David Mitchell - submitted by relatives. I had no contact with family members of these men when researching the Blairgowrie & Rattray War Memorial. I have e-mailed the site with my contact details, so we'll wait and see

Mark,
I contacted one of the leading lights on the Scots at War project a while back and haven't heard back from them as yet.

Strangely enough I have just emailed the Director who is a friend and ex-colleague of mine suggesting they add a link. She is now at Cambridge University but I'm sure will be interested.

Thanks chaps. The lady at Scots of War said she'd add a link but I've just checked and nothing so far.

By the way the two relatives, with whom I'd no previous contact, of men listed at Blair got in touch. The g-nephew of David Mitchell sent me a photo (amazing!). Unfortunately too late for the book (what did you say Derek?) The other relative has so far failed to respond to my e-mail, although she said she was very interested initially.

I am, therefore, going to do an 'exclusive' of David Mitchell for you! Permit me to go slightly off thread here.

Lance Corporal 351258
The Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment) 9th Battalion

Age: 30

BORN: 27th March 1887 at 25 Union Place, Dundee.
Son of William Mitchell (Railway Engine Driver) and Jessie Mitchell.

Enlisted: Edinburgh
Killed in Action, France & Flanders, Monday 9th April 1917
Buried: Grave II. G. 8 - Roclincourt Valley Cemetery, France.

BLAIRGOWRIE ADVERTISER: 21.04.17
Lance-Corpl. David Mitchell, Royal Scots, only son of Mr William Mitchell, retired engine driver, Allan Street House, was killed in action on 9th inst. The sad news was sent by a comrade. He enlisted in October 1915 and had been nine months at the Front.
Lance-Corpl. Mitchell served his apprenticeship as a compositer in the ‘Advertiser’ Office, went to the ‘Scotsman’ Office, Edinburgh, was for a short time in Canada, and returned to the ‘Scotsman' from the staff of which he joined up.
When in Blairgowrie he was an active member of the Y.M.C.A., at which he read several essays. He was 30 years of age and an exemplary young man.
To the bereaved family much sympathy has gone out.

N.B.
David Mitchell is also commemorated on both the Blairgowrie High School Memorial Board and St. Andrew’s Church Memorial Plaque.
