To assist others with their research, this thread will give information on published Rolls of Honour and the major locations they can be found.

Please post those that you are aware of and the master list in this initial post will be updated.

For reference, these should be Rolls which can be accessed by the public - in libraries, museums etc. Those in private hands should not be included here.

I'm aware this thread is largely empty at the moment, but I have some information I shall fill in later.

Stewartry Roll of Honour, a 200 page book published in 1927. Copies in Castle Douglas library and Ewart library in Dumfries. I have scanned the whole thing to pdf (not professional standard - you can see my thumb in places!). It is over 150MB but if anyone wants a copy for the 1 to cover postage, a CD and a padded envelope, just send me a pm.

Contains biographies of many of the men from Durisdeer village (fallen comrades only). The only copy I know of is in Sanquhar Tolbooth museum. Republished by Gladys Cuttle in 2011 with additions. Details at http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=5068&highlight=durisdeer

Do you want us to list here all the rolls of honour in churches, schools, village halls and public places which are recorded elsewhere on the forum?

No, this is more for Rolls of Honour in book form which were published at the time - post WW1 and WW2.

So no framed Rolls on display in churches etc, and no Rolls which are brand new.

These can be seen in the Memorial Hall at The Art Gallery & Cowray Hall area, Schoolhill, Aberdeen. They are in a case but you can ask to view.
Aberdeen Central Library, Rosemount Viaduct, Aberdeen has them too. They can be looked at in the Local Studies Department.
Aberdeen Family History Society has a copy of WWI names in the library at 158 King St; Aberdeen.

Although they are in churches, should we also list rolls of honour in book form? These are normally locked in cases and so only display one page.

I think we're losing track here. What I'm looking for are Rolls published in book form, which were published for the public to obtain copies of. Many of these are now hard to track down, so I'm looking to compile a list of these.

These would be items like "Coatbridge and the Great War" which was published in the 1920s and could (I believe) be purchased but which is incredibly rare now.

This thread will compile sources where these can now be found for public viewing.

The United Collieries Limited Roll of Employees On Active Service, 1914 1919 would presumably count?

I know there are copies in the Mitchell Library. The original is held in the archives (ref GB243/TD666) and a photocopy in the main reference section (940.412411 UNI)

Copies are also available through various local libraries but I don't have details. A transcription is also available:

Published 1919 by [S.C.W.S.] in Glasgow.

no idea where you might find a copy though

NLS have a copy:
General Reading Room (stored in George IV Bridge)
Shelfmark: H2.76.1475

As they are a legal deposit library, they should have published books, unless lost, or never deposited with them

I'm going to lock this thread.

What I have done is create a "Rolls of Honour" section in each region.

I will shortly go through the "books" section and move any relevant publications to the correct region.

Please DO NOT add threads to the region sections at the moment as I may move a thread there, thus causing a duplicate.

If there is one you feel should be in a specific section please let me know by Private Message to avoid duplication.

Some Rolls of Honour will cover more than one region - I will create a section shortly for these.
