According to William Stanley, Land and Fleet Services, South Lanarkshire Council, the Cambuslang memorial did have plaques which were inscribed with the names of the fallen. The plaques were either vandalised, removed for refurbishment and lost or, they were stolen. This happened sometime in the early nineties.

"Private Patrick Mulligan, of the 1st Cameron Highlanders, who resided in lodgings in Buchanan Square, Silverbanks, Cambuslang, was shot through the head while in the trenches on Wednesday last. Private Mulligan, who was 23 years of age, enlisted in August, and was sent to the front in February. He was previously in the employment of Messrs Stewart and Lloyd, tube manufacturers, Dalmarnock."

Extracted from an item on the Great War Forum ......Margaret Caswell was a waitress at the Officers Club, EFC and was killed on the night of 29th- 30th May 1918 when enemy bombs were dropped on Camp 1. One bomb fell into a protection trench killing her and eight colleagues (Blaikley, Campbell, Connor, Grant, Moores, Thomasson, Parker and Watson. ) and wounding a further seven.

"Sergeant William Whyte, who joined the 1st Battalion Gordon Highlanders on September 4, has been wounded by a bomb from a German mortar, which at the same time wounded three other soldiers. Sergeant Whyte is 21 years of age, and has been at the front since March 5. He was employed in the office of the surveyor of Taxes, Glasgow. He resides in Cambuslang."

"Mr William Fisher (8 Bothwell Street, Silverbanks, Cambuslang) has received a letter stating that his son, Corporal Thomas Fisher, was killed at Ypres on April 23. Fisher was 25 years of age, and had been seven years in the 1st Cameron Highlanders. Six years were spent in India. He held the lightweight championship belt in 1913-14 while in the 9th Division, 2nd Cameron Highlanders, and had won five cups and a number of medals for boxing while in the Army."
