Has anyone been to the 228 Sqn RAF Sunderland flying boat - Flight W 4208 crash site of 25th August 1942 and the memorial on Eagle's Rock , near Dunbeath , just north of BERRIESDALE in Caithness ?
The Celtic Cross at Eagles Rock bears the names who died on a "SPECIAL MISSION " .
One of the crew , Flt Sgt Andrew Jack , the tail gunner survived the fatal crash as his tail turret broke off on impact . He was found the following day and hospitalised in Wick .
Casualties include are :
Air Commodore HRH the Duke of Kent
Flt Lt Frank Goyen , the sunderland's pilot and Captain. ( Australian )
Wing Commander Thomas Mosley, 228 Sqn RAF commanding Officer
