Thanks for the photograph. However, it doesn't look like the original memorial as described.

The original memorial as described was obviously the names from the First World War. That which has been photographed is perhaps an updated plaque containing the names from those members who gave their lives in both World Wars. It is situated to the right of the bar in the members lounge.
The Club Secretary was most helpful during my visit. I am quite certain that the club would be grateful for information on the names on the plaque. Post any info on the forum and I'll collate it and send it on.

CARNOUSTIE'S FALLEN GOLFERS

HANDSOME MEMORIAL TABLET UNVEILED

The members of Carnoustie Golf Club paid fitting tribute on Saturday to the memory of eighteen of their comrades who laid down their lives in the Great War. The memorial has been placed on one of the walls in the Clubhouse, and consists of a beautiful brass tablet, surmounted by Grecian marble.

The unveiling ceremony was performed by Col. A. J. Campbell, Barry, in presence of a large gathering of members of the Club and representatives of sister clubs. The company, on filing into the Clubroom, were preceded by Piper James Myles, of the Black Watch, who played "The Flowers o' the Forest".

The Club Secretary, Mr George Davidson, read the inscription on the memorial and of the names of the fallen, which are as follows:- James Alexander, Richard Bell, David Black, Walter Burnett, John Cable, James L. Carnegie, Robert Clark, Gordon Falconer, David Fearn, George Hall, Alexander Hebenton, Sidney Lamb, Valentine Scroggie, Andrew Simpson, Kenneth Simpson, Bert Snowball, James Wilson and William Yeaman.

Colonel Campbell, in unveiling the memorial, said the eighteen whose memory they were met to honour were amongst the flower of Carnoustie youth. They were all agree that the war was a righteous war, and their youth rallied round the cause of righteousness and of liberty. Their eighteen comrades gave their lives for them, and they could not think too highly of their memories that day.

After prayer Piper Myles played "Lochaber no More" and Bugler George Whyte sounded "The Last Post".

No fewer than 187 members of the Club served in the war.

Walter Burnett is also listed on the Kirkmichael War Memorial, Perthshire. His name is not on the original plaque but has been added later by virtue of a small individual plate.
