On 24 May 1945, 8 civilians and 3 RAF aircrew lost their lives when a Wellington ac crashed into a house in Lossiemouth:

Further info

20 OTU Wellington NC594 A1-W had departed RAF Lossiemouth at 0952 for an Air Test on 20/05/45

Almost immediately after departure, one of its engines was heard to be malfunctioning. The aircraft began to circle for approx 5 mins over the sea.

It then commenced an approach over the local town towards the airfield when it suddenly dived and crashed into a three-storey house on the edge of Lossiemouth

All three crew were killed along with eight civilians, six from one family and two from a second
