On a very recent visit to FORT WILLIAM I traced the present location of the former Fort William Post Office War Memorial that was in the old post office and then laterly in a store in the town's sorting office. It seems that the public's unhappiness with its last location the Post Office have loaned it to the West Highland Museum in the town centre of Fort William for all to see .
The wooden memorial has a section for the casualties for the 1914 -1918 war and then an additional wooden section covering the 1939 -1945 war . ( 15 named casualties for 1914-1918 and 3 named casualties for 1939-1945 War )
At the top of this Great War memorial there is a large kings Crown with coat of arms and below the words
"A DH ' AINDEOIN CO THEIREADH "
then below
"IN HONOURED MEMORY OF THE MEN OF FORT WILLIAM AND DISTRICT POST OFFICE STAFF WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918 .

Hugh Cameron - Seaforth Hdrs
