SAMUEL H. TURNBULL.

Named on the Denholm War Memorial near Hawick, Roxburghshire as:

SAML. H. TURNBULL PTE. RL. HIGHRS.
Samuel Horace Turnbull – age 34 – Private (290443) 8th Battalion, Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)
In 1901 Samuel was an apprentice engine fitter in Lasswade, Midlothian and by 1911 he was a coal miner, living with his wife and family in Cowdenbeath, Fife. He was working at Raith Colliery and living in Auchtertool, Fife when he enlisted at Burntisland, Fife.
Born 1883 in Cheetham, Prestwich, Lancashire. Son of Robert Scott Turnbull and Hanna Maria (Whiteley) Turnbull of Denholm, Hawick.
Husband of Jessie (Robertson) Turnbull who he married in 1907 in Newcraighall, Midlothian. Later she became Mrs William Connor of 18 Landale Terrace, Auchtertool, Cowdenbeath, Fife when she married in 1919 at Lasswade, Midlothian.
Killed in Action on 19 July 1918 and buried in Meteren Military Cemetery, France.
Also named on the Cowdenbeath War Memorial.

His eldest son Robert was killed in WW2 and is named on the Cowdenbeath WW2 Memorial
Robert Turnbull – age 33 – Sergeant (2755454) 7th Battalion, Black Watch who died between 23 and 24 October 1942 and who is buried in El Alamein Cemetery, Egypt

The Window is WMR 56501, The Roll of Honour is WMR 56503 and the gravestone is WMR 81686
