Thanks for the close up of all the names. My dad was from Buckhaven and he knew all the civilians listed on that monument. James Wilkie was his best friend at school. The locals kept the tragedy of 1941 quiet, to themselves and only recently in the last couple of years (2006) erected another memorial. I hope the link works for you.

It does not appear that any of the victims of this tragedy are commemortaed by CWGC. This, in my opinion, is not right.

It seems to me that they should be listed. A wartime accident involving munitions would seem to be a fair reason. A family of four from Dundrennan are given CWGC status. They died as a result of an RAF aircraft crashing onto their house while on a training mission.

TWO MORE BUCKHAVEN SOLDIERS KILLED
Other two Buckhaven soldiers have fallen in the fighting in France.
Official Intimation had been received that Sapper Andrew Dunsire, R.E., was killed in action on 19th December. Before enlisting six months ago he worked as a miner in Rosie Pit. He leaves a widow and child.
Private Jas. Petrie, Seaforth Highlanders, has also been killed in action. He had previously been “gassed” and wounded, and had returned to the trenches. He leaves a widow and family, who at present reside in Kirkcaldy.
Dundee Courier 7 January 1916

Note - can't see these men on this memorial so have posted here in the hope that someone can copy to the correct place

BUCKHAVEN BLACK WATCH MAN KILLED.
Mrs Barclay, East Lawrence Street, Buckhaven, has been notified of the death her husband, Private Robert Barclay, Black Watch, who was killed by an explosive bullet. The sad intelligence was conveyed in a letter from Sergeant Dewar, a Bowhill man, who praised the character and courage of the deceased soldier.
Private Barclay, who was a native of Leven, where his parents reside, was a butcher to trade, but worked latterly as a miner. He was 26 years of age, and leaves a widow and two children.
Dundee Courier 19 April 1916
