BOWHILL MINER KILLED IN ACTION.
Mrs Young 4 Second Street, Bowhill, has been notified that her husband, Private David Young, Royal Engineers, was killed in action on 13th inst in France.
Private Young (30) enlisted in the 2/7 Black Watch on 20th January, 1915, and after going to France in June was transferred to the Royal Engineers. Previous to enlisting he was a miner at Bowhill Colliery. He leaves a widow and two adopted children.

AUCHTERDERRAN PARISH HARD HIT.
THREE SOLDIERS REPORTED KILLED WITHIN A WEEK.
Auchterderran parish has been hard hit by the war during the week, information having been received of three soldiers having been killed in action.
Mrs Marshall, 4 Eleventh Street, Cardenden, received information that her son, Private Alexander Marshall (27), Gordon Highlanders, was killed on the 12th inst. by piece of shell. The captain writes: —"Your son was a cheerful and efficient soldier, trusted by his officers and loved by his comrades. He gained a reputation for honest, hard work which will remain in the memory of the platoon for a long time." Previous to enlisting twelve months ago he was employed as a miner at Bowhill Colliery, and formerly as a ploughman at Balgreggie Farm.
Mrs Young, Cardenden, has been informed that her son, Corporal John Young (25), Black Watch, was killed in action on the 19th inst. by a stray bullet, which struck him on the forehead. Previous to enlisting he was a miner at Bowhill Colliery. He was an enthusiastic footballer. Deceased was recommended for the D.C.M. for distinguished conduct at Loos.
Information has also been received that Corporal William Logan, Black Watch, has died of wounds. Corporal Logan belonged to Dundee, and previous to enlisting was a miner at Bowhill Colliery. He was married while on furlough, and leaves a young widow.

THREE FIFE SOLDIERS LAY DOWN THEIR LIVES.
Mrs Gray, Long Row, Denend, Cardenden has been informed that her grandson, Private James Gray, Black Watch, was killed in action on 3d inst.
Private Gray enlisted a year ago, and had been at the front only two months. Conveying the sad news to Mrs Gray the chaplain writes:- "Your grandson was one of a party which bravely and successfully raided the enemy trench opposite ours, but unfortunately he and two comrades were killed and others wounded."
Private Gray, who was only seventeen years of age, was employed as a pitworker previous to enlisting.
Information has also been received that Private James Crombie, Black Watch, was killed in action. Previous to enlisting he resided with Mr Fraser, Dundonald Den, and worked in the pits.
Official intimation has also been received of the death of Private William Calder Seaforth Highlanders. Private Calder died of wounds received on 8th ult. In civil life he was a miner at Brigghills and resided in Dundonald Den. He was connected with the Salvation Army Corps, Lochgelly, and Lieutenant Dr Cameron, of the regiment writes of him:- "He was a splendid and faithful servant, whose loss affects me deeply."

FORMER BOWHILL MINERS KILLED IN ACTION.
Information has been received by Mrs Anderson, 18 Fourth Street, Bowhill, that her husband, Private Thomas Anderson, Black Watch, was killed in action on 27th August. Previous to enlisting he was a miner at Bowhill Colliery. He belonged to Lochgelly, and leaves a widow and two children.

Mrs John Bunton, 21 Quality Street, Kirkcaldy, has received intimation that her brother-in-law, Private James Hoggan, Black Watch, has been killed in the recent fighting. A comrade states that Private Hoggan was killed at his side by the bursting of a shell. Deceased spent his early years in Freuchie, where he served his apprenticeship in Mr Strachan's boot factory. He afterwards proceeded to Kirkcaldy, but ultimately went to Bowhill and worked in the mines. He leaves a widow and six of a family, who reside at Bowhill.

AUCHTERDERRAN PRIVATE KILLED IN ACTION.
Mrs Alex. Testard, residing in Fifteenth Street, Bowhill, Auchterderran, received intimation from the War Office yesterday that her husband, Private Alexander Testard, No. 7647 Royal Scots Fusiliers, was killed in action on September 22. Testard was reservist, and his time would have expired in a few months. He was called up when war first broke out, and his last letter to his wife was two days before he was killed, in which he said he was well and getting on admirably.

Both Testard and his wife belong to Dundee, Mrs Testard's parents residing at 48 Kemback Street. They have resided in Auchterderran district for a long time, Testard being employed as a miner at Bowhill Colliery.

He leaves a widow and two young children.
