Thanks for that Jim,

The problem is he's mentioned on the great war name panels. So I imagine they were made before 1939.

Perhaps he served under another name and his original is not known to the CWGC? A mystery for sure.

Richard Pow is not on CWGC or SNWM. A Richard Grant Pow died in 1919 of Acute Lymphatic Leukemia aged 25 in Bo'ness. He was described as a coal miner.

It may be his brother William listed on the memorial also.

"Private Joseph Sherratt, 1st Battalion Cameron Highlanders, is reported missing. This information is contained in letters to friends in Bo'ness. The writer is Corporal Mathieson of the Camerons, who states that he regrets to say that private Sherratt had been missing since the battle around Ypres on November 11 .... the enemy broke through their lines. "B" company, to which private Sherratt was attached, suffered heavily, and all were reported missing except the writer and a private."

I believe this to be the man on this memorial. There are no James Reilly's listed in the Glasgow RoH or at Coatbridge.

"Private James Reilly, of the Black Watch, died from wounds on November 22 and was buried in Merville Cemetery. He was born in Coatbridge, enlisting from Bo'ness five years ago. He proceeded with his regiment from India to the front. He was aged 23."

McCleary was for a time employed in the yard of the Forth Ship Breaking Company at Bridgeness."

"The death at the front of Private David Tait, 2nd Royal Scots, was yesterday communicated with friends at Bo'ness. He would seem to have been killed in the trenches on March 1. A comrade, writing of Tait's death, says the Germans were raining bullets on the British on a clear moonlight night, and the young soldier was shot through the head. He was a native of Bo'ness, aged 22, and formed one of a band of local lads who joined at the outbreak of war."

Hamilton had been in the Army about 5 years, two of which he spent in India, proceeding to the front in January. He was the youngest son of Mr George Hamilton, Furnace Row, who has three other sons in the Army."

'Francis' is listed on a family grave in Bo'ness Cemetery as the son of Andrew & Elizabeth Watson (nee McCarroll) on which is inscribed 'as a token of respect from the Ship's Crew'. Also stated is that he was killed on active service at Rosyth.

On his death registration, he is listed as Francis Farquaharson Watson, Merchant Seaman, single, died 4th December 1942 at Rosyth Dockyard, Dunfermline (usual residence 22 East Bay?, Bo'ness), son of Andrew Watson, Foundry Labourer* (deceased) and Elizabeth Watson nee McCarroll.

His cause of death is listed as Fracture of the skull, falling from a height.

Father - Pte. Andrew Watson (died 22nd March 1918 aged 26 years) is listed on Bo'ness Civic Memorial, listed on the family gravestone and is commemorated at Pozieres Memorial.

Francis Farquarson Watson was buried in Section BN, Lair 17, Bo'ness Cemetery on 8th December 1942.

The Lair Owner was Andrew Watson.

There was an RCE annotation on the death registration but on checking, there was no 'view/download' button to see it, so after contacting Scotland's People, they kindly sent me a copy of the image, but there is no additional information except that the home address looks now more like East-Bog rather than East-Bay.
