I like that.
It bears a striking similarity to another memorial but I can't remember where
Any idea of the sculptor? _________________

I had a wee look to see if there was a name anywhere but couldn't see anything. (It's not listed on the UKNIWM site or anywhere else that I can find, but I'll keep looking!)

Are you thinking of the Argyll's memorial at Stirling castle?

Hi all,
Slightly off-topic, I know, but do any of you guys know where the enlistment records of the Argylls in Falkirk for the Great War are kept ? I've search the National Archives but it's tricky and haven;t got anywhere.
regards

Hi,
I haven't so thanks for the tip. Being through in Fife I'm not really sure what is and is not available in Falkirk. I'll contact them, so thanks once again.

I believe iof they still exist they are in the National Archives at Kew. WO97 I believe, although someone more knowledgable will no doubt correct that if it's wrong.
Any names you're looking for? I might be able to help. |

I was presuming all these men would be Falkirk 'Bairns' as they were mentioned on the Falkirk Memorial? Wrong again?
Anne
Note to self: "No . . . . correct this time - Gold Star for actually reading the inscription correctly"
They might not be 'Bairns' but they were all from East Stirlingshire - or is that a football team? |

|
|
In July 1904 the competition for a design for a memorial to the dead of the Boer War was won by John Campbell, a pupil teacher at the Falkirk Science and Art School, a 20 year old Falkirk Bairn. The sculptor was W Grant Stevenson, RSA. He also sculpted the Burns statue at Kilmarnock and the Wallace statue at Aberdeen. The memorial was unveiled in October 1906 by Lord Roberts, VC. |

Do you know if either designer or sculptor also did the Argylls memorial on Stirling Castle Esplanade? They are quite similar. (And I take it any Argylls listed on the Falkirk memorial are also listed on the regimental memorial)
Thanks
