Three memorials were raised after WW1 in memory of the former pupils of Ardvreck School, Crieff, who gave their lives. This one is still situated within Crieff Parish Church. There was a bronze tablet erected in the former St. Columba's Episcopal Church, Crieff, but is not in their new building. The third was another bronze memorial placed in Ardvreck School Library. I'm wondering if the St. Columba's one went back to the school also.

C.Isaacson, M.C., Royal Scots.

This entry is a little misleading and infact refers to Capt.Colin de Stuteville Isaacson, who was commissioned into the Royal Scots in 1902 and having attained the rank of Captain by 1907, he then resigned his commission in order to settle in British East Africa.
On the outbreak of the Great War he offered his services and he joined the East African Forces serving with the mounted infantry in the early part of the war. He was later to act as Staff Captain to General O'Grady, and it was whilst employed in this roll that he was mortally wounded leading an attack against the Germans near Lindi, German East Africa on 11th June,1917. He died from these wounds 5 hours later.
Whilst serving in East Africa he had been awarded the Military Coss and was also Mentioned in Despatches.

Presumably the first man listed is Ralph Frank Abercromby who died whilst returning to the UK to enlist.

Thanks Adam.

Yes, this would appear to be him. I suppose that he was a casualty of the war--although probably not quite how he would have imagined, or indeed hoped, that he might have died?

Robert

Following the Peerage link on the Lusitania page takes you to his Grandfather where you find the family came from Forglen in Banffshire and Ralph Abercromby is listed on that memorial too.

http://warmemscot.s4.bizhat.com/viewtopic.php?t=2931

It seems he was either destined for the Royal Engineers or had already signed up in North America?

Thanks

Adam
