Hi,
I am trying to research the above casualty and I have been advised by Mike from Aberfeldy(GWF) that dhubthaigh is the man to ask regarding this man from Logierait.
I have located the excellent images of the war memorial at Ballinluig, on which his name appears, but would like to know more about him and if possible find a photograph of him.
Any assistance to this end would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Robert,

I have the following from two newspaper sources. Not great in length but this is common as the war dragged on. I could photograph the farm for you and have a look round the cemetery for any family stone.

Observer Robert A. Duff, R.F.C., youngest son of Mr Duncan Duff, Woodend, has died of wounds. He was 26 years of age and an excellent rifle shot.

ROLL OF HONOUR - LOGIERAIT

Observer Robert A. Duff, of the Royal Flying Corps, son of Mr Duncan Duff, Woodend, has died of wounds. Prior to joining the Air Service two months ago has was a driver in the Army Service Corps, and had been at the front for 2½ years. Decceased was well-known in Mid-Atholl as a noted marksman. He was 26 years of age. His brother, L-Cpl. Hope Duff, Camerons, was severely wounded.

Hi Mark,
Thank you very much for your reply. This is most informative and just what I was looking for, I wonder was there by any chance a photo of him attached to either of the entries?
If you have the opportunity to take a photo of the farm then that would be great and any family headstone/s too.

It's some time since I transcribed the entries so I'm not sure about any photo. I'll try and do the farm/cemetery by the end of the week. I am then out of commission for a while as I am off on my hols.

Anything you can do is much appreciated. Please don't worry if you run out of time, as I appreciate going on holiday has to take preference over my little project--I'll just pester you when you return--now that's something to look forward to!!!

No problem, glad to help out. The office assistant at work is a native of Logierait and remembers two Duff's who lived in cottages (long gone) near the cemetery and thinks they would have been connected to Robert. No knowledge of any family living locally now. However a wee article in the local magazine might turn something up - no stone and all that. When I'm in the library at Perth I'll look for a photograph. If I have to photograph from the reel the quality may not be great but it will give some representation.

I will take your advice and contact the local magazine, as you say---!!

I have been in touch with the library in Perth and they have very kindly located and copied a photo of Robert from the People's Journal dated a couple of weeks after the article which you posted for me. I am hoping to receive this in the next few days. At least I have saved you another chore!! Many thanks for the offer.
